Once again it is the time of year that we come together to celebrate our legacy and to take care of the business of Alpha. Therefore, it is both my duty and my pleasure to issue this “Official Call” to convene at the 88th General Convention (102nd Anniversary) in accordance with Article II, Section 8 of the Constitution and Bylaws of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
This year’s gathering will be held July 17-21, 2008 in Kansas City, Missouri, with events occurring at both the Convention Center and the Kansas City Marriott Downtown. While our first priority is to handle the business of Alpha, the host chapters and brothers from Kansas City have spared no expense to make this one of the most enjoyable conventions you will ever attend. Kansas City is well known for its contributions to African American culture such as the American Jazz Museum and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
Be reminded also that your attendance this year is essential as we will announce the General President elect who will succeed me as the 33rd General President. This is of particular importance as we make every effort to preserve our history and, at the same time, embrace our future by selecting a new leader to continue our rich heritage.
In closing, I look forward to seeing you and your families in July as we renew and refresh our fraternal bond and enjoy all that Kansas City has to offer.
Fraternally,
Fraternally,
Darryl R. Matthews, Sr.
General President
